This method consists in inducing an intense magnetic field
in ferromagnetic material resulting in flux leakage fields
at the level of the flaws. Those fields are displayed by highly
micronised magnetic tracers laid on the material surface.
The examination can be carried out under visible light with
contrast dyes and coloured tracers.
- Those tracers can be dry or wet :
- dry tracers: ferromagnetic, very mobile on the testpiece
surface and much visible to the eye,
- wet tracers: carrier liquids are either non-flammable
aqueous products or flammable kerosene products.
